Comparison

NULX and Bunny Stream, honestly.

Bunny is inexpensive and good at what it does. For a large share of workloads it is the cheaper answer, and this page says where.

Short answer

Below roughly 8,000 monthly viewing hours, Bunny is usually cheaper.

Bunny Stream bundles storage, encoding and delivery at low per-GB rates. NULX charges a flat platform fee and leaves storage and delivery on your own Cloudflare bill at $0 egress. Because Bunny's delivery rate is already low, the crossover only arrives at substantial viewing volume, and it moves with your audience's region.

Our own calculator will tell you to use Bunny when the numbers say so. If you are below the crossover and do not need file custody, take the cheaper option.

Trade-offs

Where each one is the better answer.

The deciding factors are viewing volume, viewer region and whether custody matters.

Bunny wins on simplicity and low volume

One vendor, low rates, no bucket to manage. For modest catalogues this is hard to beat on price.

NULX wins on custody and scale

Files stay in your R2 bucket and delivery does not scale the NULX bill, so heavy viewing does not compound.

Region changes the maths

Bunny's delivery rate varies by region: cheapest in EU/NA and several times higher in Asia/Oceania and South America. An Asia-heavy audience reaches the crossover much sooner.

Common questions

Picking between them.

When should I just use Bunny?

Modest viewing, EU/NA audience, no requirement to hold the files yourself. The calculator says so directly when your inputs land there, and links to Bunny.

Why is the crossover so much higher than for Cloudflare Stream?

Because Bunny's delivery rate is already low. Stream's per-delivered-minute pricing overtakes a flat fee far earlier.

Does caption volume change the answer?

Yes. At $0.10 versus $0.02 per minute, a caption-heavy library moves the crossover forward substantially.

Can I move from Bunny later?

You would re-upload masters. That is the general problem NULX is trying to remove: with BYO storage the files are already yours.
